An autumn craft session can become part of a winter gathering. Cary’s Under the Silver Moon program includes lantern-making workshops ahead of the community lantern parade scheduled for January 16, 2027, at 6 p.m. in Downtown Cary Park.
The town lists star-lantern workshops on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., at $15 per lantern. They are suitable for ages eight and older, with children under twelve supervised by a guardian. Register through RecTrac and confirm the session’s exact venue; workshops take place at either Bond Park Community Center or Cary Arts Center.

The series is led by teaching artist Gowri Savoor and uses sustainable materials. Choose a session by its age guidance, available time and project format, since later workshops have different requirements. Registration and remaining places should be checked directly rather than treating a published schedule as a reserved spot.
Think about making something that can be carried comfortably and enjoyed again after the parade. Follow the instructor’s design and lighting guidance; the parade excludes pets, fire and candle-lit lanterns. The larger appeal is that something assembled around a workshop table can later join many other individual contributions in a shared public celebration.
